Our Programs

Rossville Summer Recreation offers a variety of programs for kids starting as young as 4 in both spring and fall. Our spring program runs from April through June for regular season with All Star tournaments in July and the fall season runs from August through early October. When determining which division your player is eligible for, parents should use the following age guidelines for baseball and softball. These age guidelines are determined by the leagues that Rossville Summer Recreation participates in.

Baseball: Age as of April 30 of current year

Softball: Age as of December 31 of prior year

For fall program registration we highly encourage parents to register their child in the division that they will be eligible for in spring. The fall is a great opportunity to introduce players to their spring division as it is a slower paced season than spring. If any questions arise during registration please reach out to the program coordinators.

Coed

  • T-Ball
    • Tball is geared toward introducing 4-6 year old boys and girls to baseball and softball. In this division, players will be introduced to basic skills and rules of the game. This includes hitting from both a pitching machine and tee, beginner throwing and fielding techniques, and being a good teammate. T-Ball takes place on Saturday mornings during the season and all games are played within the Rossville Summer Rec League.

Baseball

  • Rookie (6U)
    • Rookie ball is the first introduction to full baseball for players 5-6 years old. At this age, players will start to work on baseball specific skills and further build on those developed in Tball. Teams in this age group will start to travel to other local teams to play games with the goal to be 1 game and 1 practice per week. In the instance that a team cannot be created due to lack of interest, players will be moved into TBall or Pinto after discussion between parent/guardian and program coordinator.

  • Pinto (8U)
    • Pinto baseball is geared toward players 8 years and younger to further their development as a player. At this age, teams will start to play other teams in the area. Focus is on player development and learning additional rules of Baseball. Rossville Summer Rec plays Town and Country rules at this age and all pitching is completed via machine. Families can expect 2 practices or games a week with an occasional 3rd game as season starts. At this age teams will participate in county tourneys and then All Star teams will compete in the Town and Country Districts with the chance to qualify for advancement to State.

  • Mustang (10U)
    • Mustang baseball continues the development journey for players 10 years and younger. While participating in this division, players will start facing live arm pitching and development more in depth understanding of position play. Families can expect 2 practices or games a week with an occasional 3rd game as season starts.

  • Bronco (12U)
    • Bronco baseball is the last step prior to most player's journey to middle school baseball. At this age, players can expect to begin to finesse positional skills and further develop their hitting skills. Players can also expect to gain a better understanding of game strategy.

  • Supplemental Teams
    • To provide a higher level of play while still staying within the rec league experience, Rossville Summer Rec creates Supplemental teams at the 8U and 10U levels. These teams are made up of players from the regular rec teams and have additional practices each week with double headers on the weekends. All players are welcome to try out for these teams at the beginning of the summer season.

Softball

  • Daisy (5 & 6)
    • This division is geared toward 5 & 6 year old girls that are wanting to play softball in the future. In this division, players will start to use the 11" optic yellow softball that is used for 8U and 10U play. Girls can expect to learn more about hitting, fielding, and throwing with a softball. Teams in this age group will start to travel to other local teams to play games with the goal to be 1 practice and 1 game per week. In the instance that a team cannot be created due to lack of interest, players will be placed into either Tball or Pixie after discussion between the program coordinator and parent/guardian.

  • Pixie (8U)
    • Pixie softball aims to develop a players love of the game while experiencing a variety of positions. Players will continue their use of the 11" ball while hitting off a pitching machine. Focus is on growing a love of the game while developing skills for being a good player and teammate. Teams will practice or play games 2 times per week with an occasional third game during season. The season will end with a League tournament followed by an All Start tournament.

  • Cadet (10U)
    • Cadet softball is the start of live arm pitching in conjunction with the pitching machine in some cases. At this age, girls will be pitching from 35 feet with the 11" softball. Focus will continue on player development while starting to introduce position specific skills. As with Pixie, teams will practice or play games 2 times per week with an occasional third game during season. The season will end with a League tournament followed by an All Start tournament.

  • Juniors (12U)
    • Juniors players will begin to use the 12" full size softball and the pitchers mound moves back to 40'. All pitching is done via live arm. Players will continue their development as a student of the game. Teams will practice or play games 2 times per week with an occasional third game during season. The season will end with a League tournament followed by an All Start tournament.

Middle School (14U)

  • At this time Rossville Summer Recreation does not offer this level of play, but does liaise with coaches to register players and provide field time for practices and games. Students at Rossville Middle High School should listen for callout announcements in late winter.
